Eight People rescued off boat in Scotland
Four people were treated for smoke inhalation on the morning of 23 September after they were among 8 rescued from their yacht following a call to Clyde Coastguard.
Clyde Coastguard received a broadcast from the 48 ft charter yacht Aislig Bheag at 0040 local reporting that they had an electrical fire and required immediate evacuation. The Coastguard advised the skipper of the vessel to ensure that all those onboard had lifejackets on and to launch the liferaft on the lee side of the vessel.
Meanwhile the Coastguard made a mayday relay broadcast, to which one vessel responded, and requested the launch of the Oban RNLI Lifeboat.
The vessel which had responded to the mayday broadcast went very swiftly to the aid of the vessel and stood alongside. The lifeboat arrived shortly afterwards, by which time the fire had been put out, but was still smouldering. The 8 people onboard were evacuated to the lifeboat and the yacht was towed back into Oban by the lifeboat.
The Clyde Coastguard Watch Manager commented 'The initial call came into us at 12.40 am and by 1.20 am, the 8 people from the yacht were back into harbour. Due to the quick and professional response from all involved, we were able to ensure the safety of all 8crew. There were gale Force 8 winds on scene with fair visibility.'
